5 trends in sustainable architecture

In Arquitendências we present the biggest trends in architecture on a global level, which is constantly expanding according to the world around it.

Today, we bring you some of the latest innovations that take into account the constant change our environment is subject to. Check out the 2022 trends for architecture in this article.

Prefabricated architecture

Prefabricated architecture consists of developing an architectural project on a specific site, which is transported to its final location when it is finished.

Recently it has gained a lot of popularity, especially for those who want to spend their vacations away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and tourist spots, and also among digital nomads, who as long as they have an internet connection can work from anywhere.

Prefabricated projects have several advantages, such as the low costs they represent, their sustainable and efficient character, and also the simplicity and modularity they prioritize.

Tiny House

A tiny house is a simple, minimalist alternative to the imposing houses and buildings that occupy big cities.

Like prefabricated architecture, tiny houses have come into vogue in recent years thanks to the desire of ecologically conscious people who want to live in a simpler and more sustainable way and attached to fewer material goods.

They are increasingly a serious option for residential spaces, as they allow you to save space without losing comfort and for a low-cost value.

3D printing

3D printing is a simple, efficient, and innovative technology that reduces risk and saves time.

Although it is a slowly evolving trend, 3D printing is beginning to be adopted as a technique by construction and architectural firms because it allows them to eliminate many steps during the construction process.

One area where it has enormous potential is in social housing, due to the possibility of lower costs, shorter execution times, faster printing, and less margin for errors, without compromising the quality of construction.

Solar Energy

From small to large homes, solar energy is being used to power and support all types of architectural structures. Because it is an incredible source of energy and a sustainable alternative that respects the natural environment around it, it is increasingly present in home designs.

Since it maximizes the energy efficiency of homes, it allows residents to save on their electricity bill in a convenient, autonomous way that is adapted to their consumption needs.

Floating Houses

From houses to hotels, artificial islands and even greenhouses are already seen floating in bodies of water all over the world

This trend is mainly due to climate change and the constant rise in sea level, which makes the transition from land to water and the existence of floating structures look differently.

In the north of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, a floating neighborhood is being developed over one of the famous Dutch canals, taking advantage of the little space available in the city to build new housing.

This "floating architecture" maintains the comfort level of the houses and calls for a reduction in electrical consumption through the use of efficient devices and solar panels and the use of forest products to avoid as much as possible the use of fossil fuels.
